A 31-year-old man with HIV and intermittent adherence with antiretroviral medications presents for evaluation of a growth on his palate and a persistent dry cough. His last known CD4 count was 188 cells/mm³, and he states the growth has enlarged during the past 2 months. On oral examination, there is a purple, exophytic mass covering the hard palate (Figure 1). Biopsy of the mass demonstrates Kaposi’s sarcoma. Screening chest radiographic imaging demonstrates multiple nodular lesions in the lungs. Bronchoscopy with biopsy is performed, and pulmonary Kaposi’s sarcoma is confirmed.
