A 40-year-old woman with HIV presents to clinic for a follow-up visit. She has taken antiretroviral therapy for 3 years and has experienced a CD4 count increase from 168 to 380 cells/mm³. In addition, she has maintained undetectable HIV RNA levels for more than 18 months. She complains of mild side effects from the medications, but does not miss any doses. She is going to be traveling for about 6 months and wants to take a drug holiday during this 6-month period.
